discussing violence

It’s very difficult to talk about violence even among close friends over drinks, let alone on social media or other online venues.

For some people, feeling “safe” means never discussing violence or violent acts. For others, that means being allowed to discuss the violence they already fear and the threats of violence that already exist. I think it’s important to lean into the latter.

We are not all in equal amounts of danger from this election’s outcome and we need to hear those fears to understand them. That isn’t fun. It’s upsetting. It sucks.

If you aren’t willing to cope with the unpleasantness of being upset from listening to & understanding someone’s fears, you’re on a very dark path. And that dark path is what this election is about.
